Bright ideas: Increasing lesson participation

Do you ….?

  • always have the same hands going up to answer your questions in lessons?
  •  have some characters dominate in your class?
  • have boys or girls that volunteer their answers more readily?
  • unconsciously look to the same students to answer your questions?

I was recently reminded of a great tool whilst observing a lesson, The Random Name Picker. Why have I stopped using this? It’s great!

Enter your class names and save the wheel. Its then available to use for the whole year, ensuring that your questions are spread evenly and fairly amongst your students.

Plan your key questions for the lesson carefully and then spin the wheel. Maybe something to try with new classes in September?

Enjoy!
